About Me

My name is Bart Read.

I work from home near Cambridge in the UK as an independent consultant, entrepreneur and tech writer. I also contribute to the open source Node Tools for Visual Studio project hosted on CodePlex.

My expertise is in .NET, web, and mobile, and I’m always looking for new technologies to learn, use, and write about. As a result you’ll often find me at local developer community events.

Previously I worked at Red Gate Software for nearly 10 years – truly an awesome company making great tools for developers and DBAs. Over that time I was a developer, project manager, and product manager, but I also helped out with technical recruitment, and even ran the IT department for a while. I’ve worked on some great products for .NET developers over the years: Nomad for Visual Studio, .NET Reflector, ANTS Performance Profiler, ANTS Memory Profiler, along with many of Red Gate’s SQL tools.

As my interests broadened though I eventually decided it was time to move on from Red Gate and strike out on my own. These days I do a variety of things to pay the bills, but I also have a particular interest in social media applications for consumers that can help people make healthy and constructive use of the various social media platforms.

You can find out more by reading my blog. I also occasionally blog about technical matters on Simple Talk.

When I’m not working I like to make music, keep fit and train for spartan races, snowboard – although there aren’t many mountains near Cambridge – and get up to sundry mischief with friends.

If you’d like to get in touch you can find me on twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+, or you’re welcome to email me at [email protected]. You can find my latest CV/resume here.
